Celtics center Robert Williams exits game with left knee sprain

Robert Williams III dives for the loose ball during the game on March 27, 2022.

Robert Williams III, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds in Boston’s 134-112 win over Minnesota on Sunday, limped off the court at the end of the third quarter  and did not return.

The team said he had a left knee sprain. Udoka said Williams had “quite a bit of pain” but the team would know more after seeing a scan on Monday.

Boston’s win, combined with Philadelphia’s loss to Phoenix, vaulted the Celtics to first place in the Eastern Conference. The top four teams, which also include Miami and Milwaukee, are separated by just half a game in the standings.

The 24-year-old Williams is enjoying a career year in his fourth NBA season, averaging personal bests in points (9.9), rebounds (9.6), minutes (29.7) and blocks (2.2) per game.
