For those of us who come to En Fuego for one reason or another, there is a commonality bigger than the game of hoops that connects us here. I believe it's this: most of us are trying to figure out how to make this 'game' a permanent and sustainable part of our lives. No matter if you are a player, agent, coach, an administrator with a team, or small business owner in the industry, you probably thought about what your 'next move' is almost on a daily basis. How can you take that next step is a question I'm sure many of us ask ourselves. We 'call' it the grind and it is, there's no better word to describe the process. Here's my simple translation; the grind=trying to make it, that's it. Puere and simple. And, if you haven't, thought about your 'next move' in minute, well, sit back, relax and enjoy the post, you're doing alright.
But, if you have batted that 'next move' scenario around in your head on the constant, then you are in the grind. Here's a quick test: stop reading, ask yourself the question: 'what's my next move?' If you've come up with about 42 different scenarios that involve you and hoops, then, congratulations, you passed the test, welcome to the grind.
So, you're in the grind, now what? Are you on the right track? And...where is this track going? Who knows and does anybody else really need to care, except you? Sure, you have supporters, fans and loved ones that care about your success but the point is, what you're doing is something you set out to do, probably a long time ago, in hopes of accomplishing a certain hoop related goal. Things don't always go according to plans but plans change, you change, different opportunities arise.
The grind is our education, in some form or another and we haven't quite figured out what it might mean to us further down the road, whether you get to where you set out to go or not. Steve Jobs said it best, 'sometimes it's hard to connect the dots.' My advice on this glorious Wednesday? Move forward on this day with positivity and creativity, embrace the grind and make an impact. Play like it's your last day on earth...
