Team Mexico simply doesn't have the firepower and it showed last night as they played three solid quarters agains the reigning Olympic Champions, Argentina and then ran out of gasolina.

Team Mexico ultimately fell to Argentina 92-74 to close out their South American tour after going losing twice to Argentina, once to Poland and we're not sure about Uruguay, did anybody catch those games on the 'Deuce?'

Anway, not exactly a roaring start for new head coach Silvio Santander, who hails from Argentina by the way, had hoped for. Omar Quintero was a bright spot for Mexico with 15 along with teammate Hugo Carrillo but the old pro's got hot in the fourth quarter and Andres Nocioni brought the rain from 'threelandia' to give the Argentinians yet another convincing victory over Mexico.

(By the way, just an update, Mexico plays Brazil on Sunday in the Beach Football World Cup, so take that Argentina! Oh, another 'by the way,' if you have some time, check out the sights from the tournament ...any hoops in Marseille?

How 'En Fuego' Are You...or, Are We?

We're sort of 'en fuego...' you?

I'm not sure about you but we can't wait for the Olympics, obviously for the anticipated hoops beat down were gonna put on the rest of the world...or maybe not? If we come home with anything less than a gold and a convincing one at that, I'm gonna go back to watching J.V. games full time and write off the NBA and USA Basketball for eternity! By the way, what's up with the USA Basketball? Is it any wonder we've pretty much been battered internationally since the days of Dream Teams 1 and 2? Nobody seems to really care and why should we if you can't name the starting five of the U18 sqaud that's gonna play for gold against Argentina in the FIBA America's Championship tomorrow night in Tango Town, Argentina.

We surmise most Argentinians can give you their starting five along with a detailed breakdown of their individual  strengths and weaknesses while twirling one of their blonde beauties in high heels as they tango effortlessly across the street for a little skirt steak and fine Argentinian wine...o.k., we might be romanticizing that just a bit. Forgive us, we couldn't stop thinking about the blonde in the heels. They were black by the way...point being, the Argentinians are passionate, all of them, about the soccer and their hoops. In our favor, the 12 guys that will suit up for Uncle Sam have the passion and we are lucky for that because they will make us believe again. Our advice? Play like it's your last day on Earth! USA...all the dang way.

Romel Beck, who competed for Mexico’s National Team at the FIBA Americas Basketball Championship, is currently playing for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League Team.  If Beck performs well enough he might be able to earn a position with the Cavaliers or another NBA team.

Last year Beck played for Cimberio (Pallacanestro) Varese and Pierrel Capo D’Orlando in Italy’s highest basketball league, Serie A.  Beck helped Pierrel to the sixth best record in Serie A.  Pierrel made it to the play-offs but lost in the first round to Air Avellino.
